We caught up with Bryan Lakatos, Director of Technology & Innovation at The Miami Valley School in Dayton, OH. In addition to being a two time BIFnik, Bryan attended our recent Action Collab Facilitator Training and shared how Big Ideas Fest has impacted his work since he attended his first Big Ideas Fest.
We love having educators come to Big Ideas Fest for the first time. When they come back year after year and bring their colleagues, it’s even better. We caught up with Colorado Education Initiative’s Tara Jahn @Tara_Jahn to see how she has been incorporating the things she has learned at Big Ideas Fest through the years.
How did you first come to attend Big Ideas Fest?
From children’s lunch boxes to online learning platforms for educators, user-centered design informs the products and services we engage with everyday. Kendra Cunningham, ISKME’s User Experience Designer, works on improving the user experience of ISKME’s OER Commons platform and its hubs.
We were fortunate to catch up with Kendra for an informative discussion about user experience design and its importance in education.
We’ve built in “improv”–the improvisational method of achieving cooperation–into the DNA of Action Collabs that we offer at ISKME. Most recently, a writer from San Francisco’s KQED Mind/Shift called out our use of improv at our annual Big Ideas Fest.

Talk about Big Ideas Fest success stories. Ashanti Branch walked off the stage at Big Ideas Fest 2014 and onto the stage at Sundance Film Festival in early 2015, where he premiered his documentary, The Mask You Live In.
