We love it when educators come to Big Ideas Fest for the first time. It’s even more exciting when they come back year after year. Ainsley Lamberton (Administrative Director, Office of the VP and Associate Provost for Research and Graduate Studies, Lehigh University) is a certified BIFnik, having attended in 2012 and 2013. 2014 will be her third year.

Six years ago,  the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) created Big Ideas Fest (BIF), a three-day conference that brings together about 200 stakeholders in the world of education — teachers, students, administrators, researchers, and policymakers. (The 2015 meeting will be held in December in San Jose, California.)

On December 9, 2013, QFI’s OER Fellows participated in an International Math Collaboration OER Training put on by ISKME in Half Moon Bay, Calif. The one-day training gave math teachers from the Middle East and US the opportunity to share best practices for innovative math teaching and to collaborate to create new curriculum.

ISKME GoPro Learning Challenge: Education’s Digital Media Uprising

The capture and use of video was a rare activity for most of us until recently. Shooting video was reserved for momentous events, and was not widely considered a tool for everyday life and learning. Enter new tools like the GoPro Hero 4, the iPhone, and the Flip camera. Combined with easy-to-use editing software and resources, such as ISKME’s OER Commons, for posting and sharing video, we can use video anywhere and anytime to document and share our lives with the world.
