Open source education proponent ISKME, an organization in Half Moon Bay, will be joining holistic hula-hoops, robotic dogs, science geeks and craft enthusiasts are all descending on San Mateo this weekend for the 2012 Maker Faire at the San Mateo County Event Center.
ISKME’s Teachers as Makers Academy stimulates teachers’ creation of Open Educational Resources (OER), freely available online learning materials, in a collaborative format that covers the basics of finding and evaluating OER; and leads teachers through the design and remix of new projects to share. We view teachers as makers of learning and strive to support innovation in their teaching by leading them through a dynamic two-day Academy that stretches their creativity in terms of how and what they teach. Half Moon Bay, Calif. – Dec. 6, 2011 – An international committee last week selected the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) as the winner of the prestigious 2011 OPAL Award. ISKME was recognized for its OER Commons Teacher Training Initiative in the category honoring effectiveness among organizations that influence policy.
ISKME is the 2011 winner of the OPAL Award for Bodies which Influence Policy. Gráinne Conole received the award on behalf of Lisa Petrides, Director of ISKME, at the awards ceremony.
