It’s 2014, and we have come a long way since the launch of the OER movement – from small beginnings to significant inroads among educators, learners, advocates and policymakers. Together we are changing the way teachers and learners access and use educational resources, offering new ways for schools, universities, and informal learners to use data and creating tools that improve student learning.

The Primary Source Project (PSP) is a timely effort being conducted by ISKME, supported by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to collaboratively create a slim canon of openly accessible and contextualized primary sources on OER Commons for engaging K-12 teachers and students. Materials will include both currently open sources and materials that will become open through the advocacy work of the project.

Music open educational resources (OER) have the potential to fill gaps in access to instructional materials for K-12 music teachers and learners, and to support teachers and learners as content creators and collaborators in meeting educational goals. This study explores the current state of music OER, the audiences that these resources serve to benefit, and the opportunities and challenges involved in adopting an open approach to the development of music education resources.
With support from the Metlife Foundation, ISKME has been facilitating a Knowledge Collaborative for Cross-Organizational Learning (KCCOL) for seven grantee organizations, including: Learning Forward, Asia Society’s Partnership for Global Learning, New Teacher Center, College Summit, Education Trust, New Leaders for New Schools, and the Center for Teaching Quality. The goal of this project is to foster collaboration across the participating grantee organizations to create a shared voice and joint action around education reform issues of importance to them.
