An exciting development in education is the integration of design thinking into teaching and learning. Design thinking, long employed by designers and engineers, is an approach to problem-solving that involves defining an issue, collecting research, generating ideas, and prototyping before implementing a solution. The workshops will be conducted by ISKME facilitators who are trained in the Action Collab process. ISKME has created Action Collabs to help organizations successfully collaborate and build solutions to very difficult challenges.
Samantha Meazell, ISKME Action Collab facilitator, says ISKME will train the MCPS administrators and teachers at the workshop to apply a design-thinking framework to innovate new ideas with actionable next steps, from design to prototyping and implementation.

ISKME’s 3rd annual Big Ideas Fest (www.bigideasfest.org) was held this week in Half Moon Bay, CA, and as promised, creative doers and thinkers from diverse levels of education gathered to learn from and share with each other. This convening yielded creative, inspirational, and often revolutionary ideas about current educational challenges, while providing the opportunity to interact and engage with a mix of teachers, researchers, administrators, entrepreneurs, education leaders. Today, ISKME’s Big Ideas Fest got a shot in the arm from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation with a $50,000 matching grant to incubate our new program, Big Ideas in Beta, which launched at this year’s Big Ideas Fest, Dec. 4-7 in Half Moon Bay. (more…)
